cook and eat outdoors

Make a fire in the winter darkness or enjoy a picnic in the spring sun. At Hornborga there are several cozy places to sit down and have a snack. At three of them it is also possible to have a campfire and cook your food outdoors.

Places for outdoor cooking

Cooking over an open wood fire is a fantastic experience. In the Nature Reserve you can light a fire only in one of the four designated sites. In all other locations, it is prohibited to start a fire. This also applies to disposable (one-time use) barbecues.

However you are allowed to use charcoal barbecues with legs and camping stoves in the reserve.

The four places to make a fire they can be found at Fäholmen, Fågeludden (2) and Utloppet. On the map that we have linked to below you can find how to get there. In all these places you will find benches where you can sit and a height and lowerable barbecue grill. One of the placs to build your fire is the stove located on the terrace of Café Doppingen. You are free to use this one when the café is closed.

If you are a larger group, it is most spacious at Fågeludden. Also at Fäholmen and Utloppet there is an extra picnic table, in addition to the benches around the fire. At Utloppet and Fågeludden there are also WCs.

BE WISE WITH FIRE

Keep in mind that you may not damage or break off branches in the nature reserve. At the barbecue sites there is a supply of firewood that you can use. Bring something dry with you to light the fire with.

First, check that there is no open burning prohibition in effect, which sometimes be issued during dry summers.  You need to check even though it is unusual that it also applies in designated sites. Ask at Naturum Hornborgasjön if you are unsure.

Be careful when you build your campfire. Make sure you have something that can easily put out the fire if it becomes necessary. Before you leave, of course make sure the fire has been completely extinguished.
